Dicumene is an environment friendly replacement for Antimony Tri-oxide (Sb2O3) and is commonly used as a flame retardant (FR) synergist for polypropylene and polystyrene, especially in expandable polystyrene (EPS).

Application:

1. With dosage 0.5-1% in EPS, Dicumene can decrease the dosage of brominated FR (HBCD) evidently.

2. For Polypropylene, dosage 1.6% Iodobenzene and 0.2% Sb2O3, along with 0.2% Dicumene, can help to achieve LOI 25.5%. (If no Dicumene, LOI only 19.5%)

3. For Polystyrene, dosage 0.3％-0.5％ Organic Bromide, along with 0.3% Dicumene, can help to achieve fire-out-time less than 3 seconds. (If no Dicumene, the burning will not stop)

4. For HIPS, Dicumene can completely replace Sb2O3. To achieve the same FR performance, in Dicumene formula, the dosage of brominated FR is just half that of Sb2O3 formula, and the dosage of Dicumene is just 40% of Sb2O3.
